At Solbari, the Founder & CEO, Johanna Young, knows firsthand the toll that skin cancer and melanoma can take on individuals and their loved ones. After seeing the effects of these illnesses through her work as a volunteer with skin cancer charities, Johanna was motivated to take action.
Did you know that 1 in 5 Americans will develop skin cancer by the age of 70 and that more people are diagnosed with skin cancer each year in the U.S. than all other cancers combined?
That’s why Solbari is dedicated to being a global leader in skin cancer research, prevention, detection, and treatment.
The good news is that skin cancer is highly preventable, with 95% of cases being avoidable through sun protection measures. Dermatologists and medical experts recommend wearing sun-protective clothing as the first line of defense.
However, not all fabrics are created equal when it comes to sun protection. Research shows that a regular white cotton t-shirt may only provide sun protection equivalent to SPF5 sunscreen, leaving your skin exposed to harmful sun rays.
That’s where Solbari comes in. Johanna didn’t want her loved ones to become another statistic, so she created Solbari to provide high-quality, lightweight, and breathable UPF50+ sun protective clothing, sun hats, and accessories. With Solbari, customers can enjoy the sun while protecting their skin from harmful UV rays.

l Floppy: A floppy hat, also known as a sun hat, harvest hat, or field hat, has a wide brim designed to protect the face and shoulders from the sun. Floppy hats come in various materials and styles, such as straw sun hats, pressed fiber sun hats, and lightly woven floppy hats.
l Bucket: Traditionally made from cotton or wool, bucket hats have a narrow downward-sloping brim, sometimes with eyelets over the crown of the head for ventilation.
This style of hat is totally unisex and equally suited to and worn by men and women. The hats these days are often still made from a heavier cotton-like canvas, or else lightweight nylon or waterproof fabric that can be easily folded up and carried in a pocket or bag. The hats are sometimes fitted with an under-chin strap for sporting purposes, but more often than not, they are without one.
l Sun visor: If you’re hanging out somewhere tropical or just live in an area where the summers get toasty, you’re going to want your hat to keep the sun out of your eyes while also keeping you cool. Visors aren’t enclosed, like sun hats or baseball caps. This means that heat never gets trapped next to your scalp.
l Swimwear: A swimsuit is an item of clothing designed to be worn by people engaging in a water-based activity or water sports, such as swimming, diving, and surfing, or sun-orientated activities, such as sunbathing. Different types may be worn by men, women, and children. A swimsuit can be described by various names, some of which are used only in particular locations, including swimwear, bathing suit, swimming costume, bathing costume, swimming suit, swimmers, swimming togs, bathers, cossie (short for "costume"), or swimming trunks for men, besides others.

The hat, as a fashion accessory, became popular in the 20th century. Around 1900 dress etiquette dictated that a woman should not leave the house without a hat. Owning and wearing a unique model of hat signified the wealth and social status of the wearer.
